Bridging Gaps With Craft
I’m very happy to announce that I will be starting a new craft group in St Paul’s Church in Bedminster.
What sort of craft group?
Simply an all inclusive group. This means:
- All crafts
- All abilities
- All ages
- All welcome
There are lots of groups for individual crafts, but wouldn’t it be more fun to mix and match? Maybe you like more than one craft and would like to meet likeminded people, but don’t have time to visit several different groups? Maybe you are good at one craft but would like to have a go at something else? Maybe you can combine two crafts, for example if you like crochet you can learn how to use beads to make crochet jewellery. So if you like knitting, crochet, jewellery, sewing, quilting, macrame, paper craft, drawing and more, please come and share with us.
You don’t need to be an expert to join. You can be starting out or be a complete beginner. Part of the fun is sharing and learning together. I can teach knitting and crochet, little bit of jewellery and I’m sure we can find others to help us if there is enough interest in a certain craft. Maybe you are thinking about teaching your craft? Here is your opportunity to practise.
I have spoken to mums who like to craft, but cannot attend craft groups because of child care. If that’s you, you are very welcome to this group. There are lots of toys available and space to play. I have ran Knit, Natter and Natter group in the past and we normally got 45 minutes of crafting done before there was need for feeding, nappy changing, biscuits, etc. On the other hand if your children have fled home we would love to have you too. I’m sure you can teach us a trick or two. Nobody is too old to join us. Don’t sit at home on your own, bring you children, your friend or your nana or just come on your own. We are a very friendly bunch.
Yes, all crafters who want to meet others, make new friends, learn and share their craft are welcome.
This sounds interesting so far, but why should I come?
- Craft is a great way to meet new people.
- We can learn from each other.
- Craft is a great barrier breaker.
- For the joy of learning and making something new.
- To get together and help.
- Have some me time.
Maybe you like to knit, but sewing your knitted pieces together is not your strong point (as it is in my case). You might meet another knitter who loves the sewing part and will show you how to do it better. Maybe you will meet somebody who likes craft that you always wanted to learn. They will probably be very happy to show you. We all know, us crafters are a friendly, happy to share bunch.
I strongly believe that craft can bring people together. All crafters know the joy of crafting and they are happy to share the joy, regardless of age, sex, education, property or believes.
Do you remember when you made your first craft make? Do you remember the joy of mastering a new skill? Do you remember the rush to get new materials, search new patterns? And creating a long lists of ‘must makes’? Hopefully you do. But either way, coming to a craft group will remind you.
I have mentioned helping each other a lot earlier. But here I mean different type of help. There are lots of charities that need crafted items. I would really like to encourage members of our group to help those in need.
And if all this is not enough, just come and have some me time. Do you ever find yourself looking forward to crafting only to get distracted by housework (as if!), children, partners? Well leave all this behind and come.
How much is going to cost me? It’s £3.50 per adult. Children (with a paying adult of course) go free. You can pay on the door, there is no need to prepay.
Great, I would like to come. Where and when? Every Thursday (term time only) morning from 10a.m till 11.30a.m. In St. Paul’s Church, Coronation Road, Southville, Bristol BS3 1DG. There is some parking around the church, but it is limited. Most of the streets around have pay and display. However, there is a large Asda car park about 5 minutes walk.
St Paul’s Church is a very welcoming and calm location. There is plenty of space inside and great selection of toys for children. And of course there is lots of tea, coffee, squash and biscuits. I’m not very good at baking, but you never know, we might get a keen baker to join us one day and provide us with lovely cakes.

At the moment we are a great but a small group. With your support we will just be great.
