This series of four 40 minutes INTRO classes is specially aimed at children who would like to learn the basics of knitting. Upon completion of this course you will have the foundation skills to make your very first knitted hat and a snood.

WHERE AND WHEN WE MEET:

We will meet in The Home Crafters Ltd shop in Yate on Tuesdays 16/11, 23/11, 30/11, 07/12 from 4:15 p.m. till 4:55 p.m.

HERE’S WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: 

** How to hold the needles
** How to hold the yarn
** Slip knot
** Knit cast on
** Knit stitch
** Purl stitch
** Decreasing
** Counting the correct number of stitches
** Joining a new ball of yarn
** Casting off
** Weaving in your ends
** The importance of good even tension
** Garter stitch, stockinette stitch and rib
** How to sew up knitted pieces
** How to use knitting patterns

If it seems like a lot, don’t worry, we encourage everybody to work at their own pace. Some will be quick off the mark and some will take a bit longer. But that’s OK. It’s about having fun. We try to make learning to knit as easy as possible, starting with easy steps and building up the difficulty as you progress.

WHAT WE PROVIDE:

** 4 x 40 minutes of tuition
** Materials needed to make a hat and a snood. This includes yarn and knitting needles, sewing needle.
** A ‘Knitting journal’ sheet to record your progress.
** Patterns for the hat and the snood.
** Lots of patience and relaxed atmosphere.

Suitable for children 7+ year old. DBS checked (details available on request). Parents welcome to join in, but please notice that due to limited spaces, we cannot accommodate ‘spectators’ and any parents/carers wanting to join in will need to purchase this course (and learn with us).
